Story: Schools as birthday-cake-free zones
They've decided it's not really in the schools best interest to allow students to acknowledge their birthdays. One reason is that not all families can afford to supply their kids with snacks for the class. So now, not only are we depriving all the children of these tasty treats, but the poor students will never have the luxury of eating a cupcake. It also didn't help that the principal was rapidly gaining weight by eating about three pieces of cake a day from various birthdays.
