WWJD...what would jessica do?

Teenage atheist Jessica Ahlquist questioned the display of a banner displaying a prayer in her public high school and was summarily blown off by school administration. Now that's such a surprise that a high school student wouldn't be taken seriously. As a plaintiff represented by the ACLU, Jessica won a slam dunk decision against the school...not a surprise. House representative Peter Palumbo has referred to Jessica as an "evil little thing" and a "pawn star" of the ACLU. Now that's the kind of elected state official I want to have representing me! The hell with the Constitution and all that separation of church and state nonsense! While we are at it...the hell with...no I go too far. A bit of christian kindness is in order...unlike the hostile outpourings that Jessica has endured over twitter and Facebook. Lesson learned? You can memorize the Constitution to spit back on multiple choice tests but don't have the courage to actually expect it to be applied at Cranston High School West.

RI Fired Teachers will Get Their Jobs Back.

After every single teacher from Central Falls High School got fired over poor student performance, they are asked to teach again. But of course, under strict regulation to keep students engaged in schoolwork while working longer hours. I guess the school’s plan to hire 90 new teachers was too hard a feat… I suspect they didn’t even look. How could they not find a few better ones out there?

RI Superintendendent fires entire staff at high school

Story: Central Falls to fire every high school teacher

In one big swipe, every teacher lost their job at this failing school. It's a bold move, but the teachers decided that they didn't want to work harder. I wonder if the Superintendent plans to fill in for a couple days and lead a classroom of almost 1,000 students until new teachers are ready to move in?

Teen Jumps off High School Roof

Story: Teen Jumps off High School Roof, Flown to RI Hospital

Probably the most interesting part of this story, is that fact this same boy has already attempted to jump from this same roof in a separate incident. This brings up the burning question- Why is it so easy to climb on to high school rooftops? Maybe somebody should have kept an eye on him after the first try?

Teen Skipped School To Rob Bank

Story: Teen Skipped School To Rob Bank

The note he handed the teller was "riddled with misspellings." We can only hope he was planning on using the stolen money to buy and donate some dictionaries to his school.

Bristol teacher charged with driving drunk on way to school

Story: Bristol teacher charged with driving drunk on way to school

The teacher lost her job last year because of alcohol-related issues. But due to the forgiving education system, she is back teaching again. So now she was caught drunk on the way to school, which also means she was planning on being drunk in the classroom all day. I guess Bloody Mary's are now part of a balanced breakfast. You can tell she really cares about the safety and well-being of others. And we wonder why some students just can't get ahead academically.

Wasps Sting Two Dozen Students During Fire Drill

Story: Wasps Sting Two Dozen Students During Fire Drill

While practicing for a fire drill, some students actually had to be taken to the hospital after being attacked by wasps. We are waiting to hear back from the school to see if they have developed a "Bee Drill" yet.

School bans limos for prom

Story: School bans limos for prom

They are only allowed to arrive at prom via bus. I can't wait to see the great pics everyone takes of their expensive dresses standing next to a bus. Meanwhile, Hank the limo driver wants to know why he is all of a sudden out of business this year. I always felt like something was missing from my prom experience. And now I realize that it never had that "cross country road trip with a busload of people" feel to it.

Woman accused of biting son's principal

Story: Woman accused of biting son's principal

Follow this logic- child gets in trouble for being disruptive, mom disagrees with punishment and becomes ten times more disruptive towards school officials. It sounds like this boy has a promising future with such supportive, class-act parents behind him.

RI schools required to teach about dating violence

Story: RI schools required to teach about dating violence

I'm not sure how much detail needs to be put into educating kids about abusive relationships. It seems pretty simple: if your partner is hitting you or making you cry by yelling, its a good sign to get out. Is this important to teach youth? Sure. Should it require a curriculum that spans from 7th-12th grade? I'd like to think there are other way to use this time/energy.

Rhode Island School to Begin Microchipping Students

Story: School District to Begin Microchipping Students

They want to track kids getting on and off buses by putting chips in everyone's back pack. This way parents and teachers will always know the exact location of every student. They also plan to constantly transmit signals and subliminal messages telling children to "CONSUME." Oh, and RoboCop will be enforcing attendance when kids are caught where they shouldn't be.
