Gimme that old time religion

Alabama State Rep. Blaine Galliher introduced a bill on behalf of Joe Kennedy, former teacher who was fired from his teaching position because he refused to stop reading the bible and teaching creationism in the public schools. If passed, students could opt to take creationism courses off campus, at churches, to study creationism for credit. Perhaps they can substitute these courses for actual science classes, hence avoiding nasty evidenced based science...science is too hard for Bama, but the bible tells us so! Such a curriculum would really serve these kids well as they enter the job market in the 17th century.

Gimme that old time religion and paycheck too

Without invoking actual scripture (big surprise) Shadrack McGill asserted that raising teachers salaries is an abomination...certain path to hell we suppose. This GOP Alabama State Senator spoke for the creator at a recent prayer breakfast in Fort Payne, thumping the bible at fellow worshipers. His biblical support comes from the notion that teachers are called to their profession by God, not a paycheck. Higher salaries will attract the wrong people to the profession...you know, people who like to earn a decent professional salary! Ruination and end of the world is in sight...Satan will be teaching calculus! Anything in the bible about electing an idiot, and paying him?

WWJD...what would jessica do?

Teenage atheist Jessica Ahlquist questioned the display of a banner displaying a prayer in her public high school and was summarily blown off by school administration. Now that's such a surprise that a high school student wouldn't be taken seriously. As a plaintiff represented by the ACLU, Jessica won a slam dunk decision against the school...not a surprise. House representative Peter Palumbo has referred to Jessica as an "evil little thing" and a "pawn star" of the ACLU. Now that's the kind of elected state official I want to have representing me! The hell with the Constitution and all that separation of church and state nonsense! While we are at it...the hell with...no I go too far. A bit of christian kindness is in order...unlike the hostile outpourings that Jessica has endured over twitter and Facebook. Lesson learned? You can memorize the Constitution to spit back on multiple choice tests but don't have the courage to actually expect it to be applied at Cranston High School West.

Teacher suspended over Facebook comments

Story: Apex teacher suspended after parents question Facebook comments

After a classroom conversation about evolution, a child thought it would be a nice gesture to give his teacher a Bible. Rather than handle the situation like a mature adult, she decided to open up a Facebook rant and referred to the incident as a hate crime. Her friends chimed in with replies about "ignorant Southern rednecks" and swastikas. I guess some teacher aren't familiar with the concept of behind closed doors.

Science Teacher Scorned For Selling Students Books On Satan

Story: Science Teacher Scorned For Selling Students Books On Satan

It should not come as a shock that you cannot 1) Make a profit off kids by selling them stuff or 2) Peddle books about the Devil in school. I guess sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

Kalamazoo Catholic schoolchildren write letters to Baby Jesus instead of Santa

Story: Kalamazoo Catholic schoolchildren write letters to Baby Jesus instead of Santa

This year for Christmas, the child of Christ will be receiving notes from children instead of Santa Claus. These kids are going to be in for a heartbreaker when they realize that neither Santa or baby Jesus exist! Furthermore, even if baby Jesus received letters from a classroom of children...infants can't read! No wonder our kids aren't doing well in school.

Taunton second-grader suspended over drawing of Jesus

Story: Taunton second-grader suspended over drawing of Jesus

Whether or not you believe in the story of Jesus, it is widely accepted that he died while crucified on a cross. The image isn't a warped interpretation of death from a violent 8-year old. The school administration disagrees. After seeing the above drawing, the boy was sent home and recommended for a psychological evaluation. I don't even think Jesus himself was so quick to call someone a 'sinner!'

Christmas Music Banned In Jersey School District

Story: Christmas Music Banned In Jersey School District

"I must stop this whole thing! Why, for fifty-three years I've put up with it now. I must stop Christmas from coming... but how?" -The Grinch

Rudolph and Frosty might get the year off in these New Jersey schools. It's actually not beginning to look a lot like Christmas because they are banning all music after a recent parent complaint. The annual holiday musical program is sure to interesting this year.

STORY: Kentucky school trip included baptisms

A Kentucky Football coach rounded up the players and took 'em to church where something like 10 of them ended up being baptized. Nothing screams separation of church and state like bringing the boys out to be indoctorinated into a 1st century salvation cult.

Teacher accused of displaying Bible sues district

This the same guy who was accused of burning a cross on a students arm. Now he is suing for $1 million dollars because he feels he has been harassed and his rights have been violated. A million dollars oughta make up for not being allowed to preach the Bible during a science class, right? Well Mr. Freshwater, I am sure you are familiar with this little passage from Proverbs 28:20- "A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished. " Good luck with the lawsuit.

Christian school tells boy to skip prom

Story: Christian school tells boy to skip prom

It's a simple formula really: Dancing + Rock Music = Sex and Alcohol. All this boy wants to do is act like a normal teenager by taking his girlfriend to prom, but if he does he will be suspended from school and not even be allowed to attend graduation. His principal says he will not be pleasing god if he opts to join this "counterculture of rebellion." So when do you get to have fun? Is heaven going to be loaded with raves and strippers?

Mother uses Bible verse on modesty to fight Irving ISD dress code requiring tucked-in shirts

According to the book of Timothy, young women are not permitted to tuck their shirts in at a public school. At least that is one mothers interpretation of the good book. You would think that school districts would consult the Bible before they institute dress code policies. The mom is also allegedly upset that the cafeteria doesn't offer the Blood of the Lamb on its lunch menu.

Jesus costume gets child sent home from school

Story: Jesus costume gets child sent home from school

It wasn't so much that the costume was distracting. It wasn't even for religious reasons. The school was angered when they learned that during lunch time he was changing everyone's drinks into wine.

Elementary Teacher Exposed as Creationist

Story: Parents Say Teacher Espoused Creationism

Right before telling the 8-year olds the only thing they need to believe in was God, he pointed out that both Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny were fake. You can imagine most third graders would respond with tears...and they did. This prompts the question (a la Spinal Tap)- On which day did God create idiotic teachers like this? And couldn't he have rested on that day as well?

Texas approves Bible course for high schools

Story: Texas State Board of Education approves Bible course for high schools

The good news? Kids might be able to talk their parents out of Sunday School at church. The bad news? Students are going to get confused on test day when their science teacher explained to them about the theory of evolution earlier in the week. And are we going to allow every religion to have a course in high school as well? The students in this class will also be off-key during the Pledge of Allegiance when they're the only ones saying "One nation, under God." But again, on the bright side, the Ohio teacher who likes to burn crosses on kids arms might be able to get a job here.

Ohio Teacher Burns Cross on Students Arm

Story: Teacher Accused of Branding Kid With Cross

I am pretty sure this is how Jesus would have wanted it. In fact, isn't there a line in the Bible that says "Take your young disciplines and teach them my word by burning their skin with scolding hot irons." Apparently the line is blurry between teaching students Christian values and permanently branding them with images of the cross. Who would have thought?

The Cons of Creationism

Story: The Cons of Creationism

Great editorial re: The idiots in Texas who want to teach the "strengths and weaknesses" of evolution. One strength of evolution is that it allows for the most fit characteristics to be passed on to the next generation. One weakness is that we still have to deal with the leftovers until they are totally selected against (i.e. creationists).

Cross-Dressing Tradition Creates Controversy

I am sure the school also had a 'backwards' day that week, that doesn't mean they were supporting idiocy. If we're gonna let people over-react every time student or a school does something out of the norm, then we can say goodbye to inspiring creativity. The kids were having fun. No one is ''promoting transgenderism.'' Also, they were allowed to dress up like senior citizens. I heard there is now an uproar that the school is encouraging osteoporosis and alzheimers.

Student sues school district over religious drawing

Story: Student sues Wisconsin school district over religious drawing

Unless this kid is getting up on lunch tables in the cafeteria and preaching scripture, I'm not gonna have a problem with him drawing a picture of a cross in art class. The school also has plans on cracking down on WWJD bracelets and monitoring students thoughts before tests to make sure they're not praying for a good grade.

Gay-themed high school play draws protest

Any time someone wants to recognize the fact that gay people exist, you're gonna find some Baptist church rallying against it.
In a twisted irony, it seems that people who are willing to stand up for a belief, are willing to die for it. But people who don't believe in things and wish to remain closed-minded, are only willing to kill because of it. Now which group seems to be the difficult one?
