Gimme that old time religion and paycheck too

Without invoking actual scripture (big surprise) Shadrack McGill asserted that raising teachers salaries is an abomination...certain path to hell we suppose. This GOP Alabama State Senator spoke for the creator at a recent prayer breakfast in Fort Payne, thumping the bible at fellow worshipers. His biblical support comes from the notion that teachers are called to their profession by God, not a paycheck. Higher salaries will attract the wrong people to the profession...you know, people who like to earn a decent professional salary! Ruination and end of the world is in sight...Satan will be teaching calculus! Anything in the bible about electing an idiot, and paying him?

12 Year old beaten for failing science test in Alabama School

So, your job is to educate the students.. and you fail at your job, so you resort to hitting the students.. WHAT??!!

The United States is the ONLY Industrialized country in the WORLD to ALLOW Corporal Punishment in School.

Alabama teacher uses Obama assassination to teach math

Story: Geometry teacher who used Obama assassination to teach angles placed on leave

Unless we're letting extremist groups write our texts, I can't imagine this sample problem showing up in the pages of a geometry book. Of all the examples that could be used to teach about angles, you've got to wonder how encouraging students to think about murdering the president is the most effective. Any chance this teacher voted Republican?

Teacher suspended without pay for spanking student

Story: Teacher suspended without pay for spanking student

Corporal punishment is still very legal in Alabama. However, the parents can request that their child not be spanked at school. This teacher decided to throw the rule book right out the window and start swinging. I guess some people still believe that "a paddle a day keeps the doctor away."

Birmingham Student Beaten In Class by Teacher

Story: Birmingham Student Says Beaten In Class

Although I haven't done the research, I have to believe that whipping a 9-year old with a belt for giving the wrong answers on a test isn't the most effective teaching practice. I guess some school employees would rather send students home with a bruise instead of an education.

Boy fakes kidnapping to hide bad report card

Story: Boy fakes kidnapping to shed bad report card

The 11-year old boy developed a story in which he was forced to get into a strange car, held at gunpoint, then jumped from the moving vehicle and ran to his grandparents house. It was learned he just didn't want to bring home his bad report card. You see the stress we are giving these young kids?! By the way, I wonder how many kidnappers have the habit of holding report cards hostage. So as a parent, are you more upset about the poor grades or the falsifying of a police report?

Birmingham school board candidate lied about biography

This guy had it all wrong. Usually people running for office make lies about promises they can't keep and scandals they are trying to cover up. This guy built up his resume while campaigning, but in reality is some 21-year old high school drop out with no credentials. Now he will never get the chance to lie while in an elected public position.

Teacher in jail for sex with student, still being paid

It's been two years since she lost her job for raping a 14-year old student. She's been locked up for about a year and a half of that. She will continue to collect her full salary until this case is cleared in court. It seems that in some states losing your job might not be such a bad gig. Parents must love knowing that situations like this lead to budget cuts in schools. And if you really want to be confused, check out her mug shot and ask yourself what teenage boy would want to sleep with her "at least 10 times."

Alabama Teacher Accused of Giving Teens Drugs, Money to Perform Sex Acts

Just to be clear, you CANNOT do this. There really isn't much more to elaborate on.

14 middle school students suspended for chewing gum

Story: 14 Burns students suspended for chewing gum

Generally, the order of events for discipline goes like this: Warning> Parent Contacted> Detention> Suspension. But something as serious as chewing gum warrants a school to go right for a knock out punch, and suspend anyone caught with it. We understand that most schools ban gum, but I gotta believe there are more severe problems education is facing.

Alabama Principal Bans Confederate Flag Shirts

Story: East Alabama Principal Bans Confederate Flag Shirts

Seems like those Duke boys were causing a stir after Mr. Obama was elected president. The south is just gonna have to get over the fact that their leader will be a black man. But what is the real problem here? Is it t-shirts or tolerance?

Dress code required at football games

Story: Montgomery school dress code required at games

Fans wearing flip-flops and 2Pac shirts were becoming too much to handle for stadium security. This new ban also applies to the visiting side. So somehow this school will have to inform all fans from around the state that you can't wear regular street clothes to their games. In fact, they replaced the scoreboard with a huge sign that reads, "Gentlemen Only." This is the first step in a long-term plan that will eventually eliminate cheering, and keeping score.

Alabama student planned attack on opening day

Story: Police say Ardmore student planned attack on opening day

OK, it's good that this was prevented. However, something tells me that it would have been diverted when school started anyway because everyone would have noticed a student walking around with swords. This is just another case of a teen being picked on and secluded, and since school violence is glorified on national news stations, he thought it was his only option left. Read the above story to see how some schools are combating bullying.

High School Teacher Charged With Rape

What is left for teachers to do to get into trouble? Is there another profession that employs more criminals? It's only a matter of time until every student in the United States is effected by one of these stories.

Student Kills Self in Front of 150 Classmates at Alabama High School

It's another said story, yes. But it's a shame that his only place to turn after robbing a Dairy Queen is putting a gun to himself. Isn't there any kind of counseling or guidance that could have stepped in to walk him through this one?

Middle school students swap nude cell phone photos

It is easier and easier for teens to get ahold of porn. Back in the day you would have to wait up all night for your parents to fall asleep and hope the scrambles on the screen give you something to work with. Now you just have to play Round Robin with your cell phone and see what you have by the end of the day. It's becoming almsot like a baseball card collection to have nude pics of your classmates.
