Darwin Dad of the Year Award Nominee, James Chavez, accidentally left his LOADED semi-automatic handgun in his 4 year old daughters book bag. Sounds like an amazing show and tell.

Michigan 6-Year-Old Suspended From School for Making Gun With Hand

Story: Michigan 6-Year-Old Suspended From School for Making Gun With Hand

After pretending to shoot his classmates with his fingers, the 6-year old was sent home for the rest of the week. Hopefully during his suspension, his mom allows him to use his pretend pencil and pretend books to keep learning.

Teacher Accused of Shooting Two Principals

After hearing he wasn't getting his job back next year, this teacher decided to go down in a blaze of glory and start shooting any principal he saw. Unfortunately, it's not 1850 and you can't just jump on your horse and ride out of town scott free. With double attempted homicide charges on your resume, I doubt any other school will be looking to pick up his contract either.

9-year old faces suspension over LEGO gun

Story: Student Nearly Suspended Over LEGO-Sized Gun

If you haven't been in a public school for a while, this is what they mean by "zero tolerance." A two-inch plastic toy gun was enough for this little boy to get read his rights. It was actually a good thing he was caught, because one of his classmates was considering bringing in a much bigger, GI Joe gun to combat his enemies during school.

NRA backs student expelled for carrying gun in truck

Story: NRA backs Willows student expelled for carrying gun in truck

Only the NRA would be able to justify why a teenage boy should be allowed to keep a loaded firearm in his car during school. The student (who is ironically considering a career in law enforcement) has the habit of going duck hunting before class. I imagine it would have been even more interesting to watch the principal react to a trunk full of dead birds.

Teacher murders wife's boyfriend then commits suicide

Story: Teacher murders wife's boyfriend then commits suicide

After learning that his wife was having an affair with some 'bad boy' who steals cars, he reacted like anyone who can't think clearly...by following her to a WalMart parking lot and shooting the boyfriend in the head. The wife is also a teacher, but somthing tells me she won't be in the classroom anytime soon. Oh, she'll probably think twice about cheating again too.

School lets parent shoot BB gun in gym

Story: Balloons, BB gun, school gym: In hindsight, an 'unwise' call

If a student whispers the word 'gun,' he/she will get suspended or expelled. This school allowed a sharp-shooting parent to come into their gym and pick off helium balloons as if it were a game of Duckhunt. Maybe this principal should have done some minimal research to learn that balloons will eventually deflate and come down on their own?! In other words, the school felt that helium balloons were a worse threat than a loaded gun. Awesome.

Boy, 7, fires gun at car while waiting for school bus

Story: Boy, 7, fires gun at car while waiting for school bus

Any 7-year old that has been through a hunters safety course should know that you don't use parked cars for shooting practice. Conveniently, Nevada law states you have to be at least 8 years old to be charged with a crime. So even though this boy can keep firing away, I'll bet not too many classmates are lining up to sleepover at his house on the weekends.

Teenager Shot on School Bus in West Philadelphia

Story: Teenager Shot on School Bus in West Philadelphia

School shooting stories have been popping up everywhere recently, but it doesn't seem like the national media has caught on yet. Maybe we have all just come to terms with teens carrying a firearm. But since this one was on a school bus, it begs the question- Where is Kaleb Eulls when you need him?

Teacher Arrested For Threatening To Shoot Students, Principal

1. not sane; not of sound mind; mentally deranged
2. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of a person who is mentally deranged

When I told my principal that he was a rapist and had 13 days to live, my co-workers had rightfully diagnosed that I was insane.

BREAKING: Teen shot to death after stabbing school officer

Story: Teen shot to death after high school stabbing

This much we know: Teen argues with resource officer, teen stabs officer, officer shoots teen dead. We are currently investigating if the teen had legs, because that would have seemed like a reasonable place to shoot him so he wouldn't die.

Guns, Knives, and Fists: Rising trend in school?

About 6 months ago we did a report about school safety. After reading these recent headlines, we're starting to wonder if we should have bitten our tongue. Are teens becoming more violent in school? Or do they just not fear consequences? Check out these stories and decide:

Sex Offender Caught Roaming School With Gun

Story: Sex Offender Caught Roaming School With Gun

Schools are safer than ever. That's how this man, who is a convicted sexual predator (he kidnapped and raped a boy ten years ago), has been able to walk around a Florida elementary school all week with a gun. A concerned parent finally identified him and reported it. Maybe the front doors blew off in a hurricane and some schools are just an open playground for the public to roam around in. Otherwise someone would have stopped him sooner, right?

Teen tackles armed girl on Miss. school bus

When you're the #19 ranked defensive end in the nation among high school athletes, you've got a pretty good resume so far. Now Kaleb Eulls can add "hero" to his list of credentials. The 14-year old girl who starting waving a semi-automatic handgun on his school bus didn't have a chance against the 6'4'', 255-pound man-child who tackles kids for a living. It takes a lot of guts to stare at a loaded gun while rescuing the other 22 students on the bus, and for that Kaleb gets a gold star in our book.

Gun discharges in bookbag at Macon middle school

It sounds like the student was practicing proper firearm safety by not aiming the gun at any people. It just stinks that he most likely ruined a brand new backpack during a time of economic crunch. His mom should teach him a lesson by making him use the bullet-hole riddled one the rest of the school year.

Teacher with gun replicas prompts school lockdown

Students get referrals for saying the word 'gun.' They get suspensions if they draw pictures of a gun. I am not sure at what point actually bringing toy guns to a school seems like a great idea. Toting two replica rifles on his back, you can understand why some school staff might think a crazy gunman is walking the campus. Keep it on the battlefield next time, soldier.

High School Math Teacher Admits He Robbed New York Bank

Story: High School Math Teacher Admits He Robbed New York Bank

Hopefully his students will learn an important lesson in telling the truth. And hopefully they will learn not to clear their gambling debts by holding up a bank with a 12-gauge shotgun.

School-Shooting iPhone Game Removed From App Store

Story: School-Shooting iPhone Game Removed From App Store

Not too long after they removed a game in which the object was to shake a baby to death, Apple decided a game that encourages school shootings is the next to get the axe. I am sure when teachers ask their students what they did over the summer, they would love hearing that everyone downloaded a game with this kind of content. Something tells me the families of the Columbine victims aren't rushing to play this.

Police say officer left handgun in school bathroom

This is how easy it is to get a handgun into a Chicago school?! Cops are dropping them for kids to find like Easter eggs.
