A Texas girl was overheard saying "are you trying to start shit" to another student. She was sent to the principals office, given lunch detention, and then the next day fined $637. She's taken on a waitressing job to pay the fine.

Normally I'd make some comment about the right of the school to extort fines from students without due process, an actual court system, and the fact this seems like its the only place a government agency can issue a fine without a mechanism in place for one to dispute it or the legality of it.. BUT, this is Texas, the state which LEADS THE DEVELOPED WORLD in Corporal Punishment cases each year. Yes, TEXAS hits more students in schools than every other developed country in the world COMBINED -- something like 50,000 students are hit at least once every school year in Texas PUBLIC schools.

Texas High School Suspends Cheerleader for Refusing To Cheer for the Guy Who Raped Her

We get a lot of garbage coming out of Texas, but this is perhaps the worst yet. A high school cheerleader was punished after she refused to cheer the name of the guy who raped her.

The student was accused of raping the cheerleader, to which he pled guilty to a lesser charge of assault. The school of course couldn't keep a star athlete off the basketball team, and was outraged when the cheerleader refused to cheer out his name while he was making free throws.

They have a table set up in a heavily trafficked area where they will trade you a porno for any holy text. The group points out that the content of these holy works contains graphic depictions of sex that are no different than what you find on YouPorn.

Some students are outraged, others love it. The administration has made the right play here, by publicly acknowledging that the students are protected under the first amendment.

A teacher is on paid leave after allegedly ordering her class to kick a fellow student. 8th graders who were present at the beat down are reporting they were told the line up and take turns kicking another student as a punishment. One girl reported that she just pretended to kick him, and noticed that his legs were bruised and that he was crying.

While this teacher is on leave, it's important to point out that corporal punishment is still legal in Texas, along with 20 other states. Where do we draw the line?
