Wait til your father gets home

Despite his protests, a Willow Creek Middle School Student was outed to his parents by the school as part of a "bullying prevention effort." So the Alpine School District figures that violating student's right to privacy is a necessary part of prevention. Thankfully the boy's parents have been supportive of their son, but what if this weren't the case? Consider this blog as an official outing (without permission of course) of the school district decision makers as DUMB and DANGEROUS.

We've got spirit how about ...U-tah

We’ve got spirit, how about…U-Tah?

The Canyons School District (Draper, Utah) decided to veto their student’s top choice for school mascot, the cougar, because it is disrespectful to women. Thank you for teaching these kids an important lesson…when it comes to decision making, majority vote doesn’t really count for much. The board of education will probably let these high schoolers decide what color crepe paper may be used for homecoming, or even go out on a limb and let them choose Coke or Pepsi. But when it comes to a school mascot, how could they possibly be trusted with such a life altering judgment? And, did anyone poll the cougar population ( I mean the four legged ones)? My bet is that they would be opposed to an affiliation with such tight-minded, anti-democratic folks. So much for the graduation address from Courtney Cox or Joan Collins.

Students fined for being late for class

We might be changing out named to five dollar bills if the trend in Salt Lake City continues... A school will be allowing students to choose between a $5 fine or 30 minutes of detention for being late to class. The fees will go to pay the teachers who need to watch the kids in detention.

The idea itself seems interesting -- but how about a dual policy that fines boring / ineffective teachers and reimburses the students for wasting their time.

Pros: students learn early that money will buy you out of most any trouble.

Cons: less advantaged students end up serving detention and the wealthier peers simply pay the fine.

Mother Doctored Photo of 13 year old student

A Utah mother, Danielle Stark, changed a photo of a woman and a dog having sex by adding a 13 year old girl's head to the dog's face. Stark was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.

School claims Jesus was a vampire

Story: District parents angry over radical Web link

Usually on a school website you can find information such as a district calendar, some educational resources, and the occaisional link to a radical website supporting the claim that Jesus was a vampire. Regardless of your religious affiliation, you can see why some parents might be upset that they are teaching children that there is a blurry line between the Blood of Christ and a character from Twilight.

Back to School = Back to Sex!

We're back to school and the timing couldn't be sooner for our sex crazed pedophiliac teachers. They must have been in a drought all summer because sex scandals are hitting the headlines like wildfire. Right after hearing that a Phoenix teacher got 12 years for molesting a 14-year old student, teachers from Sunnyvale and Oil City, Pa couldn't resist the urges with teens of their own. A Salt Lake sub lowered the bar with a 13-year old girl and a Barre, Vt teacher just got arrested AGAIN for having sex with the same student. Four teachers from Bucks, PA a got fired because they knew about a teacher-student affair. But a teacher from Warrenton, Va took the prize this week because not only did he have sex with his student, but he made it into his own porn. Gotta love what the bottom of the barrel has to offer. Better add condoms to the back-to-school supply list!

Helper Junior High teacher allegedly paid student for sex

This takes teacher sex scandals to a whole new level. Not only does a 15-year old boy get to have sex with his teacher, but he gets paid $1500 to do it! I would like to hear an argument that he is not the luckiest teenager ever.

Utah school forces student to change out of kilt

Story: Utah school forces student to change out of kilt

Even though it was part of his Scottish heritage and for a school project, the boy was told he was cross-dressing. There are about 5 million people in Scotland scratching their heads right now wondering if they've been dressing like girls all along. To make matters worse, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper is also pissed off about the suggestion.

5th grade who viewed porn could face charges

Story: 5th grade who viewed porn could face charges

Curiosity did two things. It killed the cat, and it also got a couple of ten year olds arrested for typing "lesbian" into a school computer. If this was such a huge breach of security, you would think they could have some tech guy spend 20 minutes typing words into a search engine to make sure they are blocked. Now they face criminal charges for distribution of pornography to minors. Clearly, our schools have the childrens best interest in mind.

Audit discovers criminals working in schools

Story: Audit discovers criminals working in schools

When hiring, you would hope that some of the following would send up red flags: felony sex assault, indecent exposure, drug possession, aggravated assault, and so on. It should be no surprise that teachers are landing themselves in hot water when they come into the job already having criminal backgrounds. So parents, we hope you sleep well tonight.

Custodian accused of throwing wrench at principal

I guess everybody has their own creative ways to put in their 'two weeks notice.'

Schools complain about energy drinks

Story: Schools complain about energy drinks

Administration does not like free sample give-a-ways because they don't stand to make any profit. If they get the right advertising rep in there, Red Bull could be sponsoring all of their athletic events. This is assuming that they offer a better deal than Coke or Pepsi.

Student killed from prop gun before play

Story: 15-year-old killed by theater gun prop

The parents are asking why a lethal gun is being used in a student play. I think it's a fair question. Although I have never seen the Broadway production of Oklahoma!, something tells me there isn't a part that involves a 15-year old boy getting shot with a .38 caliber pistol backstage. Sad indeed, but without proper supervision some accountability needs to be taken.

Web site invites kids to snitch on bullies

Story: Web site invites kids to report bullies incognito

PRO: Students will not be embarrassed or shy to report bullying
CON: Bullies will become outraged at snitches and begin targeting them even more
PRO: The school can keep tabs on behavior patters among students
CON: Students can report false information, causing a lack of resources for faculty to investigate each case
PRO: Some students will feel safer knowing that problems have been reported
CON: Students will not develop natural social skills like the previous 25 generations

Employee charged in beer for nude teen pics trade

Story: Ex-high school staffer pleads to lesser charge in beer-for-nude-pixs case

What's troubling here, is that I didn't know teens were so desperate for beer, that they are willing to take pictures of their genitals for a 50-year old man. Not one of them had a fake ID? Even though the adult is at fault, I believe this classifies the boys as prostitutes. Next thing you know they will be pawning off their moms jewelry for meth money. Just look what this teacher started.

Mom sues school district over bat-infested halls

Story: Mom sues school district over bat-infested halls

We have our research team on this right now because we're not sure if this story is a hoax as an incredible marketing piece for the new Batman movie. If it turns out to be true, then we can only imagine why a school would let hundreds of rabies-ridden bats nest in their hallways. The fact that they made announcements and offered vaccinations for students playing with dead ones, leads me to believe they were well aware of this problem.

Girl Stabbed in School Fight

Story 1: Utah Knife Fight

Story 2:
California Knife Fight

We've got a two-pack of stabbing stories for you. This must be the hottest trend to hit teen girls since Hannah Montana concerts. It turns out this is how problems are resolved now. Rather than making 'burn books' and spreading mean rumors, girls are now skipping all the middle men and just slashing their enemies with a series of life-threatening cuts. Back off boys, these kittens have claws!

Sex Offender Discovered Working At Elementary School

The school doesn't feel they need to perfom background checks unless the volunteer works "in close contact with children." Parents became suspicious when he began giving out lollipops to the boys and telling the girls that they look like models, and that they should let him take photographs of them.

Roof collapses at middle school

2 gyms and 4 rooms? Sounds like this kind of damage might take a little time to repair. Never saw this one coming though. Who knew it snows in the winter? Someone had to have seen a leak or heard a crack over the years. The good news is the 6th graders have been moved to an elementary school...where they can get away from 8th grade bullies for a while.

Boy struck and killed by school bus

Cones are orange and pointy. Telephone poles are tall and wooden. Little boys are WALKING and MOVING! You've got like 30 mirrors on a school bus to avoid blind spots. If your job is transporting children, then children should be your #1 concern. It's not like you just unloaded 15 crates of low fat milk and the bottom box got a little damaged. As sad and tragic as this story is, I am sure it will just result in more neon yellow signs being planted everywhere.
