Story: Hickory Substitute Teacher Accused of Using a Jump Rope to Tie Up Misbehaving Student

What is troubling about this story, is that while bound, the teacher told the children, "This is what it’s going to be like when you’re in jail." The nerve of this lady to give out such inaccurate information to our youth! Even though jails are over-crowded, I don't think it's ever been common practice to tie up prisoners with a jump rope when they are causing trouble in the yard. Either they get shanked by another inmate or they're put in solitary confinement. No wonder kids haven't been scoring well on tests!

Witness accounts have the teacher calling the boy a 'cry baby,' dragging him to the ground, and putting him in a sleeper hold. Had the boy been about 10 years older and in his weight class, then maybe we could have had this sanctioned by the Nevada Gaming Commission. It is obvious what the real problem boils down to- dodgeball has not yet been banned at this school.

Who would have thought that some unstructured, non-classroom time might actually benefit children. The problem is many schools became more focused on making sure students pass standardized tests (because of NCLB), than developing a child academically AND socially. And based on other statistics, it doesn't look like kids are getting their fill of "play time" at home, unless you count Nintendo Wii.

Of all the safety risk factors on the playground, you'd really hope that getting mauled by a vicious dog isn't one of the injuries your child sustains. Luckily, since this took place in Georgia, Michael Vick was on the scene and quickly removed the animal. We can only assume he will take good care of it.

It's probably just a harmless meth needle. If you've ever seen a junky shoot up, then you know they're aren't going to leave anything in the syringe. The biggest threat now is just hepatitis or HIV. Maybe the school should reconsider why they are allowing students to use the restroom at a public park. I would say a little common sense could dictate the disadvantages of that. Oh, and also next time try and supervise a little better so the little girl doesn't have the opportunity to stick the needle in half the class.

Talk about adding an element of excitement to the old-fashioned game of tag. Was the dog also posing as a school boy and slipped past security? Hopefully this doesn't traumatize too many children into fearing puppies their whole lives. It's too bad the kids couldn't stick around to watch as they more than likely shot it dead upon capture.

Pretty soon adults will have no way to relate to our youth. The schools have stripped just about all the classic games like Tag and Dodgeball to make the playground a safety zone. So a kid gets a scraped knee? It heels. But apparently the humiliation of being chased at recess never will.

We're in a time where everyone is pushed to become equal. We can't weed out the athletic from non-athletic. Little girls can't chase little boys. We don't play games that people can get 'out' and everyone gets a trophy just for trying. What's the incentive for excelling? Does this sound familiar at all? I wanna say Communism failed because the same basic principles proved to be flawed. Why are we trying to raise every child to be exactly the same? Isn't the idea of failing supposed to motivate you to try better next time or learn from your mistakes? What ever happened to, "If at first you don't succeed?"

But it's OK, because now if you don't succeed at first, someone will lobby to make policies so that no one else is allowed to succeed either. It must have not been fair to begin with, so it must be eliminated from schools.
