She's also super nice in person.

VIDEO: Tom Yorke Raps For Education in Indiana

If there is one thing we love more than shaking down the education system, it's teachers rapping about state tests... Brandon Curl, a 7th/8th Grade Science Teacher at Gary Lighthouse Charter School sent us this video.

P.S. Is that Radioheads Thom Yorke at 1:36? You decide...

Local girl banned from singing 'Christmas'

Story: Local girl banned from singing 'Christmas'

The little girl was all ready to sing a Christmas song by Alvin and the Chipmunks in her school talent show, until she was reminded that Christmas does not exist anymore. Years ago, Jesus and Santa got together and decided they needed to evaluate some of their marketing strategies. The end result was a compromise in which both parties felt that to avoid class-action law suits, it would be financially beneficial to remove their products from public schools. And that's when we substituted the word "holiday" into everything.

Student suspended for ‘threatening’ rap lyrics

Story: BLHS student suspended for ‘threatening’ rap lyrics

This is a prime example of what's wrong with Zero Tolerance. I am guessing this boy isn't the only teenager in the country to try and write a rap song...fairly confident about that. But since his lyrics indirectly contained references to guns and death, he now faces suspension, potential expulsion, and charges at a juvenile court. Imagine if Run DMC had it this rough?

Christmas Music Banned In Jersey School District

Story: Christmas Music Banned In Jersey School District

"I must stop this whole thing! Why, for fifty-three years I've put up with it now. I must stop Christmas from coming... but how?" -The Grinch

Rudolph and Frosty might get the year off in these New Jersey schools. It's actually not beginning to look a lot like Christmas because they are banning all music after a recent parent complaint. The annual holiday musical program is sure to interesting this year.

School Students Sing Praises of President Obama

Story: Elementary School Students Taught to Sing Praises of President Obama

In an almost cult-like fashion, a 2nd grade class in New Jersey can be seen on YouTube singing their oath of praise to President Barack Obama. The video was filmed early in the year (well before Obama had a chance to do anything in office), but has just hit the web and started a wildfire of criticism. The school even went into lock down because the Principal was receiving death threats from irate parents. FoxNews will have you believe the teacher was creating a Hitler-like following of young drones, and others say it was just a creative way to congratulate Obama in his recent success of presidency. You be the judge! [Video Here]Italic

Playlist-less: Local High School Bans 20 Songs From Prom

A women's group compiled a list of over 300 songs that degrade females by glorifying sex and inspiring grinding on the dance floor. Twenty of them are now banned from prom this year. Basically, all of the popular hip hop songs right now will not be heard by these students. It might sound cliche, but old folks were equally troubled when Elvis began shaking his hips. Don't be surprised if teens smuggle in iPods and sync up their playlists for a more eventful prom night.

Florida Parents Sue School Over Religious Song

Story: Florida Parents Sue Over School Song

Two parents weren't happy that a song mentioned "In God We Trust." It wasn't enough that the school removed the song from their program, but these parents feel they are entitled to damages pay because their kids were exposed to this. It was this same argument that got the Pledge of Allegiance in trouble years ago. If they win in court, they will be requesting that "In God We Trust" also be removed from the dollar bills they receive.

You Can Vote However You Like

Someone once posed the question: How can we engage kids by combining creativity and new technologies? Well, I think we found one answer. It's about time we have evidence that a teacher is appealing to things kids like in a way that educates them about current topics. Let's maybe build on ideas like this and go back to a fun classroom environment that doesn't revolve around standardized tests. (You can find a follow-up video that interviews these students here)

Girls in trouble for "I Kissed a Girl" song

Story: Twirlers Disciplined Over Suggestive Song At Pep Rally

Here's the thing, the girls didn't actually write, produce, or sing the song. Nothing in the article indicates that there were actually any girls kissing each other either. Do schools freak out every time Queen plays at a Pep Rally because of the threat of kicking people and throwing mud in their face? This is high school, I am pretty sure most teens have access to all kinds of music. The school is allegedly trying to ban the song from the radio and MTV as well.
