While we recognize that several school districts have already been trying a 4-day week to help their budget, it is interesting (as the article points out) that not too long after Obama announced he would like to add more school days to the academic year, his home state cuts them back. While Hawaii schools have never ranked in the top half of most educational categories, I assume the extra day to go surfing will benefit everyone in the long run.

"The photograph, with the racial N-word slur, was overlooked during a review of the publication, state education officials said." Great! Sounds like years of inbred racism has also been overlooked. Well, now the whole world can see the hate that these teens have. Let's just hope someone takes the steps to fix it.

Basically, these school give whites (and other non-natives) a hard time getting in. Like most other institutions in the 21st century, they are trying their best to separate all colors of people. Hey Hawaii, you've already got beautiful weather and women, how about sharing some with the rest of us? Much like the "brown paper bag" test during the Civil Rights era, Hawaii has instituted a "golden bronzed" test...where if your skin can't get dark from tanning, you're out!
